London calling….. but whose phone is it?

I read a particularly interesting article in todays Metro which was along the lines that people should report anyone suspcious who happens to own more than one mobile.

Well its’s curtains for me then! I must be in the top terror category because I have loads of handsets. Now that’s because I am a gadget freak. 3 blackberry handsets, a skype mobile, a vodafone mobile broadband modem….. shall I go on.

Having said that I did raise the issue of mobile telephony and terrorism over a year ago.

Anyone who likes ebay will know you can buy SIM cards in bulk off the interent. These SIM cards are not registered in your name, so in a way they could never be traced to the individual who purchased them. I suspect £35 would buy 100 SIM card - so thats 100 mobile numbers.

Now you suddenly have 100 phone numbers you can use. As they are PAYG you can then link a top up card to them and if you choose, top them up with cash, so no credit card is linked to the phone.

Easy as that. Mind you - I suspect this will be used as another argument for Government to retain even more data on us, something which I am extremely wary about.
